Grafton-Midview Public Library Student Cards

Student Card Loan Guidelines

These cards are issued to students in our service district (Midview School District borders).  Opt-out is available on the form received from the school.  All student cards have the following limits.  We know that not all students and parents/guardians can make it to the Library easily, so we have partnered with the schools in our district to provide access for materials

  • 5 total checkouts at one time - Includes books, audiobooks, movies, music, and magazines.
  • Young Adult or Juvenile collection materials only at this time.
  • Equipment, games, kits, or other objects are not available for checkout on student cards.
  • Cannot checkout if there are overdue materials or lost/damaged charges (applies to all types of library cards).
  • Once a student graduates or leaves school their student card is disabled, but it may be converted to a standard adult account at the age of 18.  Stop by the Library to make this change as a valid Ohio identification is required for cards.

Students may also have a standard Grafton-Midview Public Library card in addition to their student card, which has the normal loan limits for any Juvenile or Young Adult account.  Most standard cards require a responsible party.

All requested items are checked out before delivery to the school building and have a due slip inside.  Account information can be accessed online or in the Library app using the student card number and PIN to login (see below for more details).

What Can a Student Access?

Student cards may have some checkout limitations when it comes to physical items, but they also provide access to many other online services and tools from the Library that could be of use.

  • eBooks and eAudiobooks via Libby (Ohio Digital Library collection)
  • Online Database Access 24/7 (HelpNow, Ohio Web Library, EBSCO, Culturegams, and more)
  • Computer Access at the Library (for kids and teens)
  • Kanopy (video streaming)
  • Programming for all ages

How to Use A Student Card

Using a student card is just like using any type of GMPL card.  Keep in mind the checkout limit of 5 items at a time though.  Any     requests over that limit are cancelled, but can be requested again once other items are returned.

  1. Visit gmplibrary.org and log in to your account.  Use the My Account link, which is also at the top of the page.
  2. Use your student card number (no spaces) and PIN (last 4 digits of phone number) to login to your account.
  3. Search the catalog for items and click the orange Place Hold button (must be logged in to see this button).
    1. Available items are delivered on the following Thursday.
    2. Checked Out items are delivered on the Thursday after they are returned to the Library.
    3. Remember that some items are not available for checkout to student cards (see list above).
  4. Use the default pickup location (student's school building) or choose another option from the drop-down list.
    1. School pickup options are for students and teachers only.
  5. Wait for delivery of the item on hold.  These items are checked out when delivered and include the due date slip inside the item.
    1. Deliveries are currently made on Thursdays, but subject to change depending on school schedules/hours.
    2. Special deliveries on other days may be available as well, subject to Library staff availability.
  6. When finished with the item, return it back to the designated bin in your school.  Or bring it to the library!
    1. The Library has a drop slot on the parking lot side of the building under the awning.
    2. The 24/7 Lockers at the front of the building also have a return drawer.

Replacing a Student Card

It's easy to replace a student card.  There are several possible ways to do so.  Please note that completely new student card account can only be created once the school has provided information to GMPL and the proper forms are completed.

  1. Contact the Customer Service Department at the Library (440-926-3317 - Option #1) to speak with someone about issuing a     replacement card.  Student must be able to confirm account information.  The card is delivered to the school building.
  2. Speak with the designated person at your school building who could contact GMPL for a replacement card to be delivered to the school building.
  3. Stop by the Library and ask at the Customer Service Department.  Student must be able to confirm account information.

Getting a New Student Card

For new students, an account can only be created once the school has provided information to GMPL and the proper forms are completed by a parent/guardian.  Please speak with the designated person at your school building to get the process started.  Remember that a parent/guardian can also come into the Library with a student to get a regular library card as well.  A parent/guardian also requires a library card.
