Explore the science behind the yuck with our Gross Me Out Science Kits. Visit the Children's Department every week in October to pick up the materials and instructions needed to create a gross experiment. Share photos or videos of your experiments with us at gmplkids@gmail.com . We'll combine them all into one yucky video at the end of the month! Kits are available while supplies last. Chalk the Walk Monday, October 5, 10 AM Tuesday, October 6, 3 PM Thursday, October 8, 10 AM Friday, October 9, 2 PM Calling all budding artists! Bring your imagination to the Library and decorate our sidewalk with chalk! Draw pictures, play games, or write encouraging words. Families need to register for a one hour time slot. To ensure safe social distancing, we will assign each family a sidewalk square. Masks are required for this outdoor program. If it rains, the fun will move to the next week. It's the Great Pumpkin Decorating Contest! Monday, October 12 Decorate a pumpkin as one of your favorite book characters or with a fall theme! Stop by the Library's pumpkin patch in the Youth Services Department to grab a pumpkin. Paint it, dress it, accessorize it with feathers, but do not carve it! Please return your decorated pumpkin to the Library no later than October 23. We will display pumpkins throughout the Library for voting. The winner will receive an awesome fall swag bag. Homeschool Series: Art Appreciation Wednesdays, October 14, 21, 28, 10 AM During the month of October explore famous artists, their quirks, their techniques, and their famous works of art. Be able to distinguish Monet from Manet. We will make art kits available for pick up prior to the class so you may create your own masterpiece. Additional resources may be emailed. This 30 minute class will take place via Zoom. Sign up with an email to receive your invitation. Rainbow Readers via Zoom Thursdays, October 1, 8, 15, 22, 10:30 AM Is your child ready to read? Join Miss Katie as we explore how to assess your child's readiness, learn techniques to prepare your child for reading, and finally we will dive right into the reading process. Miss Katie will break the process down into very simple activities you can do at home with minimal resources to ensure your child's reading success. Registration is required for Zoom access. Storytime @ Home Tuesdays, October 6, 13, 20, 27, 10 AM Join us every Tuesday morning via Zoom for a virtual storytime. Explore the mystery box, sing songs, and enjoy great stories. Just include your child's name and your email address when you sign up to receive a private invitation to join. Children's Programs Dear Pen Pal Experience the excitement of getting handwritten letters in the "Library mail" and making a new friend with our Dear Pen Pal Program! Dear Pen Pal pairs children (up to age 18) with senior citizens (age 60 or older) to exchange handwritten letters during October. The Friends of the Grafton-Midview Public Library is excited to announce that we have partnered with the Village of Grafton to bring our first Little Free Pantry to our community. If you wish to donate food items drop them off at the Village Hall or call the Library. Take What You Need, Give What You Can!
