JANUARY - APRIL 2020 CALENDAR & PROGRAMMING GUIDE Happy New Year to all of you! As we begin 2020, our Library looks to bring storytimes and activities with greater accessibility and inclusion to our families. Starting in January, our doors open early the second Saturday of each month to provide our Sensory Saturday program. Children who find it difficult to visit during regular hours can take part in using their Library before our regular hours. Our newly renovated Children's Department on the second floor recently received a grant from Autism Speaks to purchase various equipment and toys suited for sensory play and learning. We are happy to announce our partnership with Connecting for Kids. Find our sensory programs with other resources for you and your child at connectingforkids.org. Our Library also received two grants from Google's Libraries Lead with Digital Skills program to continue the work we do to assist our community with technical training. I commend our staff for providing on the spot help or training through our Tech Tutor appointments. There's no longer a need to struggle with any device. Give our staff at the Information Desk a call or stop by for assistance. They are happy to help you. The Friends of Grafton-Midview Public Library are pairing up with the Library to bring you adventures outside of the building. We are calling it Travel the GMPL Express and our first stop is the Maltz Museum by bus to see the traveling exhibit of Leonard Bernstein: The Power of Music. These entertaining and cultural travels are brought to you by the Friends of the Library and the GMPL Endowment Fund. Don't miss out on this first unique trip as seating is limited. Finally, be a part of our human kindness initiative this year. We will offer various activities you can partake in to bring some kindness into your life and others around you. Turn to page 7 and begin the challenge with a reading assignment: Wonder by R.J. Palacio. Or better yet, make it a family read and join us for discussions in March. Don't forget to make it social by sharing stories with the tags #makeKINDNESSloud or #GRAFTONiskind. -Adele Infante Read all about our 2020 Kindness campaign and join us as we put kindness and positivity first and foremost on our list of resolutions for the year. We also make the book Wonder by R.J. Palacio a special family read during the month of March. WELCOME OUR TWO NEW CHILDREN'S LIBRARIANS We'd like to take the opportunity to welcome two new children's librarians to GMPL. Both Miss Kari (left) and Miss Katie (right) are offering up wonderful programs for your children. They come with amazing experience to help your children grow in their literacy and educational lives. Stop upstairs and say hello!
