2021 Children

GETTING STARTED WITH BEANSTACK:

  • For your desktop, visit the Library's Beanstack URL: gmplibrary.beanstack.org. For your mobile device, download the Beanstack app from your app store and search for Grafton-Midview Public Library. 
  • Select "Register an Individual or Family" and follow the prompts to create your account.
  • The homepage will show you the available reading programs. Choose the one that is right for you. For children ages 3 to 11, choose the Children 2021 Summer Reading & Recreation Challenge. 

2021 CHILDREN SUMMER READING & RECREATION CHALLENGE:

For every hour of reading and for every activity, children earn a fun badge and a ticket to put towards a choice of prize! Children that read and log all 15 hours, just under 20 minutes a day, and complete all 22 activities earn even more chances of being a grand prize winner. 


FREE SUMMER LUNCH:

The Grafton-Midview Public Library is once again offering free, hot lunches to children, tweens, and teens (up to age 18). Lunch will be served at the Library Monday through Friday from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. Some lunch sessions will include a STEM activity with Sally Hennessy of the OSU Extension Office of Lorain County.  


PROGRAMS:

We're offering a wide variety of virtual and in-person programming this summer! All programs require registration unless otherwise noted. Registration for summer programs begins on Monday, May 3. To register for programs, please visit our Events Calendar here. The health and safety of our patrons and staff is our top priority. Masks and social-distancing are required for all in-person programs. 

 

Butterflies in the Library

May 17 - June 8

From munching and crunching caterpillars to chrysalides to fluttering butterflies, come watch the life cycle of the Painted Lady Butterfly! Check out the butterfly habitat at the Children's Desk, or watch it on our YouTube livestream here. No registration required. Provided by The Friends of GMPL and Read Between the Wines Sponsors. 

 

Family Storytime 

Tuesdays, June - July, 10:00 - 10:45 am via Zoom

Join us Tuesday mornings via Zoom for a virtual storytime. Explore the mystery box, sing songs, and enjoy great stories from the comfort of your home.

 

Nature Play

Tuesdays, June - July, 2:00 - 3:00 pm

Experience nature close-up with this interactive eight week series. Enjoy a butterfly release, owl pellet dissection, worm races, and more! Perfect for budding scientists and homeschoolers. 

 

Music and Movement

Thursdays, June - July, 10:00 - 10:30 am

Toddlers and high energy preschoolers will love this program! Learn your letters, explore numbers, and interact with a great story while you move to the music. 

 

Nora the Explorer

Saturday, June 19, 11:00 am - 12:00 noon

Let's explore some creepy, cute, and cool critters with Nora the Explorer! Learn about animals from around the world. Feel the scales of a snake, the breeze off of a parrot's wings, or see a spider tip-toe. You'll be sure to leave with a fun fact or two. 

 

Stay at Home Scavenger Hunt

Friday, July 16, 5:00 - 5:30 pm via Zoom

Our scavenger hunt is back and bigger than ever. How fast can you find your favorite stuffed animal? Flip-flops? Something that floats? Your family could win all the bragging rights in our virtual scavenger hunt. 

 

Family Binge Boxes

Friday, July 23, 4:00 pm pickup time

In the middle of a great summer staycation? Looking for family fun? Settle in for a movie marathon with one of our binge boxes. Each binge box contains 4 to 6 movies and snacks based on a surprise theme. One binge box per family please. You need a library card to check out a binge box.
